Simple refresh of data using local Excel file - why can't PowerBI connect to my file?

Hi all,

I'm very new to PowerBI, so excuse me if this question is dumb.

This is what I'm trying to achieve: from a tool my business uses, I export an Excel file every month that includes financial data of our projects of that month. I want to use this data to create my own custom dashboards. I have set up my ideal dashboard with one Excel file, so far so good. Now I want to be able to drag a second Excel export to a certain file on my desktop and manually refresh my PowerBI dashboard with the "Refresh now" button so my custom dashboard gets updated.

The problem I encounter: I've watched a video with instructions on how to achieve the above. I've installed a gateway and it says it's connected and good to go. Now I want to add a data source to the gateway cluster - but here's where it goes wrong. I get the error below:

Does anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong? The path mentioned above leads to the file seen on the image below. It's basically just a file on my desktop where I want to put the monthly results:

Hi @YensPowerBI

I can reproduce your problem with the error file path.

Then I modify with the correct file path by adding the file name.
