Show a single matrix value on rows / formatting matrix

Hi experts,

I have a matrix with a bunch of related financial metrics for an engineering firm but I have a some metrics which need to be filtered differently and I was hoping I could show them in that same matrix but it doesn't look like that is possible. So instead I was hoping to put them into their own Matrices and align them with the master so it at least flows even if I end up with some gaps between them. I have a hit a couple of snags with this approach:

Snag 1:

I can't seem to find a way to get a single value into a matrix and show it on rows. If I leave the single value I get this look: with no header label:

But if I add any other value to it I get the look I want but have an unwanted row (I just threw a rowcount in to demonstrate):

So is there a way to show a single value in rows on a matrix or some sort of workaround?

Snag 2:

The second snag is being able to shrink the boundaries of the matrix so that it is small enough to appear as just a single row - no scroll bars or padding, etc. This way I could move it right up below my main matrix so it at least appears to be related to it.

I'm open to any other suggestions to solve either problem!

Thanks in advance,

Kevin Coles

Could you use a card visual instead of matrix?

Hi @AllisonKennedy ,

I had considered this because I have a handful of metrics that require unique filtering so they can't really fit in the matrix I have with the majority of the metrics. The only problem is that I have a multiple select Accounting Period slicer. Users want to be able to see one or more months of data at a time.

If I can convince them to fix it at 1 month at a time I may build a small section of tiled Card visuals, but it doesn't look like they will go for that.

Thanks,

Kevin

What is the difference in filtering? Could you build that into a DAX calculation so they can all still be in the same matrix?

Hi @AllisonKennedy ,

The two matrices are filtered by two different Employee driven Columns. One is filtered by Team Manager, the other is by Project Manager. A Team Manager will have one or more Employees reporting to them and that filter gives me things like Utilization, Total Direct (Billable) Hours, etc.

A Team Manager can also be a Project Manager and some Employees under a Team Manager are also Project Managers. Filtering on Project Manager gives me metrics on the portfolio of projects under that PM.

My data is driven by time card records and joined to Project information and Employee information. Every record will have a PM but not every record will have a TM.

If you have some ideas on how I could do a DAX formula such that I could include metrics filtered both ways in the same matrix I would love to see how.

Thanks in advance,

Kevin
