Shortlist continuous up and down points in a column

Hello Experts,

I want to shortlist the data points from a dataset if they are continuous and up and down.

For Example :

(I have put up and down in brackets for clear understanding)

The points should be strictly (up and down) or (down and up) in sequence.

Key                  date               datapoint        expected result

abcinv1jan      1jan                    10  (up)

abcinv2jan      2jan                    9  (down)

abcinv4jan      4jan                     11  (up)

abcinv5jan      5jan                     7  (down)

abcinv6jan     6jan                     5 (down)              5

abcinv7jan     7jan                     11 (up)                 11

abcinv8jan     8jan                       10 (down)           10

abcinv9jan     9jan                       12(up)                 12

abcinv10jan   10jan                      7 (down)               7

abcinv11jan    11jan                     15(up)                  15

abcinv12jan   12jan                      8 (down)              8

abcinv13jan   14jan                       10 (up)               10

abcinv15jan    15jan                        9 (down)           9

abcinv16jan   16jan                        15(up)              15

abcinv17jan    17jan                       13 (down)           13

Can we do this in dax?

  • Index your table.
  • Create a calculated column and refer back the the index on the previous row.
  • Compare the datapoint on the two and return depending on which is higher.
