Shape map: Attack of the giant square!

Hi,

I created a topojson file using geojson.io.

This is what it should look like; a map of the UK & Ireland split into custom regions:

Map 2.png

However, when I add it to PBI, it looks like this:

Map.png

Here is a link to the json file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bcvfaiascceqq0s/Regions.json?dl=0

Any help appreciated!

Solved:

In case anyone is interested 😉

1. Create it using geojson.io

2. Copy the </> JSON into Notepad++ and save as .json file

3. Upload .json file to mapshaper.org.

4. Export as TopoJSON

I don't know why it didn't work exporting it as a TopoJSON straight from geojson.io, but hey, It works now!

Power BI requires that polygons or areas be defined with a clockwise perimiter.  However, almost all GIS or mapping software defines polygons with an anticlockwise perimeter by default.  The giant square problem will likely resolve itself if you can set the polygon orientation to clockwise.  It is a pity that Power BI can't render anticlockwise polygons!

After some testing, I have discovered that all the shapes are correct except for one - the one that is a giant square.

I tried deleting this region to see if it worked without it, but all that happens is another region becomes a giant square.

Hope this helps in solving this...
