Setting different heading and total column colours in matrix for each field or group of fields

Hi guys, I had a table looking great, when I added a new field I set the heading and totals to a colour and it retained that, now when I add new values any changes to the colours applies to only values added since I was last able to control the individually. Is this an upgrade/version change to functionality or am I doing something wrong. 

As always appreciate anyone's assistance. 

See how CV and others are grey but I was able in the past to set purple, blue and green next to each other
