Saving values periodic to compare

Hi,

(I'm new so sorry if I'm at the wrong place to ask this).

After some research I'm wondering if It is possible to do what I'm trying.

I get data in Powerbi from a query/rest API.  What I am trying to do is to compare the sales data I collect and compare it to previous quarter. So I have for example a barchart with the current sales data by category. And now I want to compare that to last quarter. Is there a way to create a column that saves the current value of a quarter, so I can compare it? (Instead of comparing it by hand).

Thanks in advance!

@Anonymous , are you able to access the historical data? Could you explain how do you want to compare the sales, for example, Total Current Quarter VS Total Previous Quarter or Current Quarter to Date vs Total Previous Quarter or Same Period Previous Quarter?

@CTozzi, Thank you for your reply, I'm can't see the historical data. I want to compare Total current quarter with total last quarter. My problem comes from the fact I don't have last the values of last quarter. So for example if the total sales of current quarter is 1000, And last quarter was 995 I want to save the value 995 so I can compare them. The data I have will only show the current value (in this example 1000).  I hope this helps to clarify my question 😉

Thanks again for your help!

@Anonymous are you able to export and save the data every quarter? Then you can create another file to combine the data and run the calculation?

Export the data: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/visuals/power-bi-visualization-export-data

@CTozzi That could be a solution indeed. I was wondering if there was a way to automize this proces within PowerBI.

Thanks a lot!
