SQL and Power BI Desktop

Can we have a daily report from SQL automatically update Power BI Desktop?

1. If you mean SQL Server table to power bi desktop, it is not possible, you can only publish the desktop pbix to power bi service, then set up schedule refresh to update the SQL data to Power bi service report.

2. If you you are using SQL Server Reporting Service, you can just use Power BI Report Server that is almost identical to SSRS in all perspective. You can also Migrate SQL Server Reporting Services reports to Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Docs, but this requires Power BI Preimum license.

Hey @kd2162 ,

 

you can get a daily mail when your data set is refreshed in Power BI.

Check the following article:

Subscribe yourself to reports and dashboards - Power BI | Microsoft Docs

 

In the subscription you have to set the frequency to "After data refresh (once daily)":
