Run a parameter to extract one name in a string of names but extract that name everywhere it appears

Hi All- 

I have a large dataset in which I would like to use a slicer to extract a text value (name) for every instance that the selected name shows up on the dataset. One issue is there are multiple names that are separated by commas that show up within a cell of a column. I would like the slicer to extract all records whenever that name shows up. 

I have read applying parameters is the way to go but since it is a large dataset; there are performance issues and takes a long time to refresh. Any ideas on how to proceed?

Hi @rahul416 ,

You can create a parameter "Name" contains user names.

Then add a text filter on "name" column which contains the value of parameter.

Once you change the parameter, the result would be change.

@rahul416 you cannot pass slicer value to underline data source to pre-filter the data, the only way is to create a parameter in your query use the parameter to filter the data using a parameter. check this video

Unfortunately, the data structure lies in PowerBI so we aren't able to use SQL. Any options to do this in PowerBI?
