Rules for automatic recognition of relationships

Hi community

 

I have Power BI Desktop connected to Google BigQuery using "DirectQuery".

Google BigQuery doesn't support relations.

 

Power BI does have some automatic recognition of relationships, but I can't manage to get it working even though I make some pretty clear column names.

 

E.g. dim_customers and dim_customer_contacts have the following keys:

dim_customers.customer_id

dim_customer_contacts.customer_id

This relation is not recognized.

 

I can create it manually, but that is not what I'm going for.

 

What are the table/column naming convention for Power BI Desktop to automatically recognize relations?

According to my experience, it is better to manage relationships manually.  If Power BI Desktop cannot determine with a high level of confidence there is a match, it does not automatically create the relationship or it create incorrectly.
