Role Level Access in PowerBI

Hey everyone,

Can anyone help me with the below questions:

  1.  Is anyone aware of any feature on PowerBI which gives us the advantage with “role level access” to the viewers? I am aware of the feature with the button “Manage roles”, was curious to explore if there is more to it!?
Eg: If I have 10 pages in my report, is there a way by which I can restrict the access to certain pages to certain viewers?
  2. Can we also give "category level access" to the viewers?
Eg: If I have the KPIs for two accounts i.e. Amazon and Flipkart (using accounts as a filter) - How can we restrict the access to the Flipkart Datapoints when viewed by the Amazon guy.

To simplify it: Let's say I have two users X & Y. X caters to Amazon and Y caters to Flipkart.
How can I give access to X so that he is only able to see data points specific to his account i.e. Amazon?

Amit

Hi, @amit_gupta

Answer1:

It is unsupported to use RLS to restrict the access to certain pages to centain viewers. Filters restrict data access at the row level, and you can define filters within roles.

Answer2:

You can take advantage of the DAX functions username() or userprincipalname() within your dataset to filter the result for the corresponding user.

Best Regards

Allan

Resolved - expecting we don't have any ways to give page-level access!

Hello,

You can take advantage of Row Level Security in Power BI to restrict the data according to the roles that you define and map the users according to those roles.

Refe here on how to do it.
