Hi all,
Im taking over a consultant's workspace and need to maintain the dashboards moving forward. I'm in the process of breaking down all calculaitons, relationships, tables, sources, and skimming thorugh docs to better understand the measures and calculated comlumns used . My question is: what are some of the best practices when reverse engineering a dashboard/database? There are 100s of projects in place and want to make sure I am efficient as possible.
Thanks,
JD

@Anonymous you can go many ways and I been into this situation many times:
- usually, I start with data model to understand how good/bad that is
= what are data sources?
- how the model is used import/DQ and what?
- how often data get refreshed?
= internal/external users?
= how artifacts are distributed?
= visualization and measures and all that stuff comes very late for me. I like to understand all the internals before getting into this visualization and DAX, if these are the problem area, I still need to understand the model and data source and data refresh policy.
I would ❤ Kudos if my solution helped. 👉 If you can spend time posting the question, you can also make efforts to give Kudos whoever helped to solve your problem. It is a token of appreciation!

Thank you! I agreee, focusing on the back end data is more important than any of the visuals. I'll keep this in mind moving forward 🙂
