We have some problem in setup Power BI report getting data from SQL Server.
We have four environments - DEV, Test, Staging, Production , where DEV and TEST are in same domain and Staging and Production are in same domain.
What i did -
I have installed On-premise gateway on a Dev server and created a Gateway. Then, i installed a PowerBI Desktop and built a report(testreport_dev.pbix) using SQL data source(Dev SQL DB) and publish it with my account. This account i had used in Gateway as well. hence on power bi site, i am able to see gateway, report and dataset. Now to view content of report i created a Datasource under Gateway.
Similary, for publishing report in Test, i just changed Datasource setting in PowerBi Desktop to Test SQL DB and then publish the report(testreport_test.pbix))with same account after renaming.
Problem is i need to do this thing for staging sql db, but this db is not accessible from the machine where gateway and powerbi desktop is installed. I have disccussed this thing to enviroment support team who manage these servers. They are ready to instaleld gateway with a common account and will add all staging and production sql datasource there, but not allowing to installed PowerBIDesktop.
Could you please let me know what is way to publish report if Sql Db is not getting connected from my DEV machine.
