Refresh Never Ends!

Hi all,

I have a dashboard that I refresh manually in Desktop as it has some dynamic API calls the service doesn't like. This has worked fine for the last couple of months, but for the past few of days I have been unable to refresh the file - the refresh just hangs there with the usual 'Evaluating...' and  'Waiting for other queries' messages - I have left this for two hours and not a single table loads.

In Power Query a number of my tables have this message displayed:

Information: Evaluation was canceled. If you have disabled the downloading of data previews in the background, this is expected since only one evaluation will be allowed to run at a given time. To see the result of this query, please refresh the preview.

This is perculiar as I haven't changed any preview settings so am unclear why this is being displayed. I've checked the usual root causes of slow refresh like 'Auto date / time' being checked, and I have experimented with enabling and disabling parallel table loads, but to no avail.

Can anyone suggest a fix, or another avenue of investigation. The data for the dashboard is coming from API calls and Google Sheets (where I have already executed the fix to the problem people were having this week).

Thanks,

SamB

Hi @Anonymous ,

For refreshing takes too much time, there're several solutions for your reference.

1.Reduce unnecessary data from data sources. Pre-integrate data at the data source.

2.It's important to choose the appropriate dataset mode. There are three dataset modes: Import, DirectQuery, and Composite.

3.Optimize your RLS, DAX and avoid rewriting.

4.Choose Single as much as possible for the direction of the relationship.

Thanks @amitchandak  - neither of those threads are quite what's happening with my file, but thank you for the heads-up 🙂
