Record Daily Data with DAX

Hi,

I'm using a file that each day the data is replaced with the latest information at the cut off time.

I need to record the data every day to be able to create historical data and charts.

Any help on this?

Thanks,

Reggie.

Do these file have different names each day, for example with a time/date stamp in the file name? If so, place all files in the same directory and use "Folder" as your data acquisition method, i.e. under Get Data, pick More... - Folder. This will pull all files from a designated folder at once.

Hi Erik, the file has the same name every day.

OK. There are (at least) two ways to go about this. The easiest by far would be to figure out a way to rename that file so that the file name includes a date stamp and move it into a folder as I suggested. This can for sure be achieved, either by doing it manually, by working the problem at the source (i.e. whatever system produces the file), or by a script that runs every day just after the cut-off. For the last one, if you are not comfortable doing this perhaps you can get help from your IT department.

The second method is much more involved but I have used it successfully. See the below post:
