RLS (or something similar) in PBI Desktop.

Happy Saturday!

I work with some colleagues who don't have PBI Pro. I've had them install PBI Desktop (free version). I import D365 entities for reports & I want to send them .pbix files so they can view reports I create for them; I want them to be able to refresh the data from within the PBI Desktop & have the latest D365 info.

Right now, some colleagues can only view certain regions in D365. If I do this with more colleagues in my organization, what is the best way to ensure they only see data in the PBI Desktop for their particular geographical region?

Is there a way to manage this outside of the PBI service?

@Anonymous as per my previous reply, no, there is no way, you have to use powerbi service and user need powerbi pro license.

@Anonymous unfortunately you cannot implement RLS in powerbi desktop, you have to share using PowerBI Service for RLS.

@parry2k

Thanks for getting back to me.

I read some documentation & watched vids on how you could only add members in the PBI service (i.e., had to be PBI Pro).

I was wondering if there is some way to implement some other flavor of RLS (not RLS in the context of PBI Pro) in the PBI desktop app.

Not sure if there is a way.
