RLS SQL Server Vs. RLS Power BI / Tabular

Hello Robot Happy

Can someone tell me what the advantages and disadvantages are to use Row Level Security in SQL Server instead of Row Level Security in Power BI or Tabular?

RLS in SQL Server seems transparent and easy to implement but RLS in Power BI is still the commen way to implement RLS in practice (in my opinion). What are the reasons for that?

Many Thanks.

@powerbityro,

What is the data source do you use? If you combine different data sources in a single PBIX file, you can configure Power BI row level security, which is suitable.

If you have configured RLS in SQL Server, and wants to use it in Power BI report, you would need to enable single sign on, which is not a easy task. And it is easier to configure Power BI rls in this case.

I used lokal data as a data sorce. One table for testing purposes.

@powerbityro,

Do you use file as data source? If so, please configure RLS in Power BI Desktop.
