Querying the Database

Hi everyone,

I'm new to Power BI,

Can anyone please tell me If I'm trying to pull the data connecting to any database, say MS sql server, am I extracting all the data into Power BI and execute the query so as to pull the required data (Which I think not) or am I only extracting the required data after querying, into Power BI.

Let's say the server has 2GB of data and the required data out of it is just 100MB,

Now am I Extracting the whole 2GB data into Power BI so as to execute the query.

Like I said I'm pretty new to Power BI so Please don't mind if it is really silly.

Thanks

Cool Dude,

Yep we can do in both ways in Database end as well as Power BI data modelling using Power Query.

The Best way is u could restrict the data in Database ,

it will give u best performance and

Reduce the file size as well.

let me know if any help

Hi @Anonymous,

You can write T-SQL statements in the following textbox to extract specific data from SQL Server database and import these data to Power BI Desktop, it will improve performance for your current Power BI Desktop file .
