So we're all pretty 'Power BI Green' here,
But are tremendously enthusiastic about the product, and have decided to step up from
Power BI DESKTOP
to
Power BI PRO
in order to continue our evaluations.
However, whenever we try to download the free trial of Power BI PRO
the website appears to say "Thanks, but you already have Power BI."
And then it opens up our free trial copy of the original Power BI DESKTOP.
So what are we doing wrong ?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Power BI PRO is not like a Power Bi Desktop which you can download. Power BI Pro is the license required for a user in to order to access the Power BI Services which was hosted by Microsoft in Colud.
You can create report in Power BI Desktop and then you can publish (For Publishing, we need to have PRO License) it into Power BI Services.
Whoever having the Power BI Pro licenses can be able to visit the Power BI Service where they can be able to access the Published report.
Hi @Dow,
Power BI desktop is a application installed on your local computer. You can create report, create measure and calculated column in desktop. Both free and pro account can publish the report to Power Bi service, there is no differences in desktop for two kinds of accounts.
Power BI pro and free license have different feature for Power BI service in cloud. More details, please review this article: Power BI Free vs Pro.
Best Regards,
Angelia

Thanks,
For me the key difference appears to be 'Desktop' vs. 'Cloud'
What's the general consensus on running Power BI 'LOCALLY' (not cloud) and producing user versions that are NOT able to import data or publish. I.E. they are 'safe' for users to use for analysis, but won't cause data or security problems.
Thanks again
