Powerbi Report Takes too long to load (Source:- Snowflake)

Powerbi report takes too long to load. Source that we use is snowflake.

Scenario #1:

We are tyring a scenario where there is only two dim and one Fact. It takes about 10 minutes to load all the tables in direct query mode itself. And then if the data preview is available in the joins estabilished between the tables, then the report is fast. If in the joins data preview is not showing up then its slow.

Scenario #2:-

Even if the data preview is available then if we close and take the pbix again then it takes too long(about 10 mins) to load the fields tab itself, which is similar to the time taken during the initial load.

NB:- The reports that were developed earlier say a month before does not have this issue. The fields tab comes quite faster. We are using Powerbi desktop versions (2019 Sep & 2019 Oct)

Hi, I usually don't recommend Direct Query unless you are sure the source is fast (normally if it's onpremise I would say no to direct query too). Assuming you have to do it, try Power Bi Aggregations to deliver to the source just the minumun neccesary.

Doc about it: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-aggregations

Video: https://www.sqlbi.com/tv/aggregations-in-power-bi/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdHSo43LkQg

If the problem continues you have to use the performance analyzer and check where is the time problem coming from.

Hope this helps,

@ibarrau  Thanks for the reply .

Our source is snowflake , have you ever happened to have used it as source?

We are trying to pull in a fact and two dimension , Establish the join and create a table visualization  . That's it. Once the tables are available in fields pane the table visualization gets rendered quite fastly. But at first its taking too long to load the "fields pane" itsef. Even before  creating any visualization it  takes too long .And it takes too long each time we open the pbix, (not only the first time). Once the fields are available in the pane, visual comes quickly.

I haven't worked with snowflake. The question here is why are you using direct query? usually the rule is "if the visualization takes more than 5 seconds, don't use it".

If you don't have a requirement for direct query and the size of the dataset imported in power bi desktop is less than 1gb, then just import data and will work perfectly.
