PowerBi Desktop Dashboard to Cloud

Hello,

I have setup a gateway from my onpremis DB to PowerBi. When I create a dashboard from my PowerBi Desktop application and publish it to the cloud. Is the service account I have setup for the Gateway used to publish data to the cloud? or the users creds?

Thanks for any insight

Hi,

Gateway:

at first you define the on premises connection in the Power bi Service.

Got to the engine wheel an click manage Gateway.

Then click add Data Source

Now You can define the source and the credentials which connect to the source.

Under the Users Tab you have to invite the user who will upload the Report and should connect to the on premises data.

Report Connection:

The report should published by the creator to the personal workspace or a created workspace.

Then go to the dataset tab in the workspace the report is published to.

Got to the settings of the Dataset by clicking the three dots of the dataset.

Then go to Gateway Connection.

Click on.

Now the user can choose the Source you invited the user befor.

The Connection between the On Premises Source and the Gateway service established with the account you specified in the manage Gateway Setting.

The Connection between the Dataset and the Gateway Service is established with the user.

You can change these settings under Datasource credentials in the Dataset settings.

Hi,

when you link the dataset from the uploaded Report to the gateway you can define which credentials should be used.

For further Informations see:

Does the user prompted for this? or is it defined some where? I've ran through the setup on the link you posted. I just see anywhere to define which credntials should be used when publishing the dashboard?
