PowerBI desktop does not open august 2020

My PowerBI desktop will not open as of today. Just launching the app or opening a pbix file both don't work. 

When starting the app it doesn't do anything, it doesnt even appear in Task Manager. 

Im using the PowerBI desktop app on windows 10. 

I did several reboots and installed the newest version. 

As well I installed the software version 2.84.661.0 locally instead of the app, but this doesnt work either. 

 

When I am trying to open the app from this directory

C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftPowerBIDesktop_2.84.663.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\bin
I get the error

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file" error when you try to install, update or start a program or file

I tried all the steps from https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2669244/windows-cannot-access-the-specified-device-path-or-... but I cant edit the permissions. Neither I can run it as an administrator. 

 

Completely lost, somebody knows why?

Still not sure what the problem was but I performed a system recovery and now running the PowerBI app July version without problems.

There is a known issue with the August 2020 Power BI Update, so I'd roll back, as i think you have done and use either July or an earlier version.

 

The fix was due to be completed by the end of the day yesterday US time.  So this may be ready to go now.

 

Although, I'm going to wait a few days.

@Datamijn , try to install using admin privileges. if it still does not work. Log an issue - https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Issues/idb-p/Issues

Just installed an old versioen (May2017) and that one opens without any problems. 

So it must have to do something with the newest version which seems to be available as of today.

 

@amitchandak Im not sure what you mean by installing using admin privileges.

Try to uninstall all the versions,then install the lastest one via below link:

https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/desktop/

Run it as an administrator,see below:(Start >search for "desktop")

 Finally reboot your computer.
