I have a Power BI report that pulls file information from SharePoint. I want to use the following value as a WebURL type so I can have a link in my Report that will open the related word document. Currently the link I have downloads the file which I don't want people doing.
Current link that Downloads
Https://mysharepoint.sharepoint.com/sites/site1/documentlibary/mydocument.docx
Link needed top Open in Office App
ms-word:ofe|u|Https://mysharepoint.sharepoint.com/sites/site1/documentlibary/mydocument.docx
This option doesn't give me the Link Icon in a Report.
Hi @NickTT ,
To my knowledge, Power BI isn't supported it currently. You can post your idea here. It is a place for customers to provide feedback about Power BI.
In addition, I find this post: Launch desktop app winword. Maybe it could help you. But I know little about this and can't help you further. Sorry.
Best regards
Icey

Just add ?web=1 to your url
Https://mysharepoint.sharepoint.com/sites/site1/documentlibary/mydocument.docx?web=1

I have, however my requirement is to open in the thick client first. Not the extra step of going to the web and then clicking open in desktop app. I know... it's not that much different but it is a few extra clicks that could be avoided if the URL worked like it does in SharePoint.
@ImkeF , any advice on this?
My guess is that PowerBI platform has to be updated to support this option as a valid hyper link.
