PowerBI: Slicer (single selection list): how to sort the list based on another column in same table

I have a table, like below:

--------------------------------

Name    |      Ranking

--------------------------------

Apple    |    5

Orange |     3

Grape   |     4

AAA      |     1

BBBB     |     2

Now, I have the slicer configured as a single selection list to display the "Name". I can see the list can be sorted by desc or asc of  this "Name" column.

But, How can I configure it to sort by "Ranking"?

--------------------------------

Name

--------------------------------

AAA

BBBB

Orange

Grape

Apple

Someone suggested that there is a buttom "Sort By Column"; but from PowerBI desktop Sep 2020 version, I did not see this buttom.

Thanks!

No, I do not have the problem.  I posted my version information above.  Maybe try uninstalling and downloading it from the link I posted?

Hi, @simonxiaoss

This is a known issue in the October release version. It has been solved in the latest version. You may try this feature in the latest version of Power BI Desktop.

Best Regards

Thanks. Do you know why it is disabled in my view here?

I would like to have a slicer single selection list to show the "CustomerName" which is Text, but sort the list based on the "ID" column which is number.

@simonxiaoss , This strange. As long as the column is selected.  You should get option.

Is it a Live connection?

CLose power bi and Open again.

Can you share a sample pbix after removing sensitive data.

I did not find a place to upload pbix file. So i captured some screenshots.

@simonxiaoss

You can share a dile by uploading to a cloud service (Onedrive for example) and share from there

@simonxiaoss

It works for me in your sample file.  I can go to the table, select the CustomerName column and the sort by is available:

You can also get there by selecting the column from the table in the report view and going to the 'Column Tools' tab:

Which version are you using? I am using Oct 2020 (2.86.361.0).

Neither of above solution works to me. In both way, this "Sort by Column" shows as "disabled" way.

I thought it might be a version problem since I got the "authored in a newer version" warning when I opened your file.

I went and downloaded the install just now from here.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=58494

That still gives me the September 2020 version:

Are you working in an internal beta version of PowerBI desktop?

No, I don't think so. I download it from Windows Microsoft Store.

In the past, I tried Aug 2020 version and I see the same problem. Which version are you using? DId you see the same problem in your Sep 2020 version?

No, I do not have the problem.  I posted my version information above.  Maybe try uninstalling and downloading it from the link I posted?

Yes, the Sep 2020 (32bits) version works to me. I did not try Sep 2020 64 bits.

This seems to be a regression bug.1111.pngScreenshot 2020-10-02 121926.png

Anyone please help? Is this a bug in recent builds?
