PowerBI Desktop connection to SQL Server error

Hi,

we do have two users in our organization getting the following error message while refreshing  PowerBI reports in PowerBI Desktop (it does not matter which report).

PowerBI_ErrorMessage (2).png

Both users have Version 2.68.5432.841 64-bit (April 2019) installed.

Has anybody else seen this error?

If we modify the connection string and remove the domain, connect only with the server name, it works.

If we modify the conneciton string and add the SQL instance port at the end of the FQDN it works.

If the user connects thru excel using the connection string (FQDN & no port) used in PowerBI Desktop it works.

If the users connects to our SQL test environment with the FQDN and no port it works.

The only connection not working is to our production system with the FQDN.

But again it affects only two users. For everybody else it is working fine.

The users are not new to the organization.

Has anybody seen this before or any idea how to solve this issue?

Thanks

Holger

Hi @Anonymous ,

Based on my research, this might be a caching issue. You could clear permissions under Global permissions in Data Source Settings for a try. Besides, make sure that the certificate used by the SQL Server is within the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store of those two users' machines running the Power BI Desktop.

For details, please refer to below links:

provider: SSL provider, error 0:The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted

SSL Security Error with Data Source
