Power Query Editor error -- SQL connection details unavailable

Hi,

I have imported a Data Model from Excel from a file I do not own, and when I try to do anything in Power Query Editor it asks me for connection details to the SQL DB behind the Excel file. I do not have permission to access that SQL DB--do I have to edit in PowerQuery in Excel and re-import instead?

Thanks!

Sarah

Hi @sarahdeatley ,

According to your description, my understanding is that you have an Excel file which connects to a SQL Server database, then when you import this Excel file to PowerBI, it will ask you for the certificate of SQL Server.

In this scenario, we can give the SQL Server certificate to PowerBI or import the data to the Excel file from SQL Server.

Best Regards,

Teige

@sarahdeatley to make any changes in power query, you need to have access to underline data source even if it is excel file
