I have been looking into this technology for a while now and I dont really understand what it is for. It has very limited functionality. Even with an on-premises server (thousands for lincensing) it still has limited comparing to SSRS reports functionality. Seems to me whoever is developing it has never worked in the real world. Let's have just one thing. Conversion to PDF. Nobody today prints reports. Eeverybody converts it to PDF and sends over an email. SSRS integration with web application is pretty straight forward. Is it the same with Power BI? I dont know. I really wnat to get into it but just dont see a reason. what you thoughts are?
Thanks
I think the principal difference between SSRS and Power BI is the kind of user. A Business User doesn't need to know so much computer science as a technic or and informatic enginner to elaborate his own reports and dashboards. This is the self-service approach where Business Users with a few informatic skills and business knowledge can satisfy their own information needs. Power BI was created for them and other analytic users. Think about the decrease in work preasure for systems department thanks to some independent business users.
