Power BI won't lanuch

Hello,

I was working normally with power bi desktop (server version) (May 2020) and applying some modification to my dataset after I've clicked the "Apply and close" button, power bi gave an error and closed, after trying to re-open it again it keeps loading and after 5 mins it gives the attached error (even opening a new report or a data model):

I've tried the following in order to solve the issue:

  • restarting my machine
  • uninstall power bi desktop and re-install it again
  • downloaded last version available (October 2020) -> same issue with the same error
  • uninstalled (October 2020) version and re-install May 2020 version with the same error.

so anyone has any ideas what is the cause, and how to fix it.

Thanks in advance

Hi  @Anonymous,

According to your error message, it seems like you are working with a 'live' mode report and it shows the issue when power bi opens the report and tries to connect to the data source.

What type of Datasource and connection mode are you test? Did this issue appear when you try to open a created reports?

If you open power bi desktop to create a new repot file, did this issue appears again? Please provide more detailed information to help us clarify and troubleshoot this scenario.

MySQL database using import mode

yes, even if I open to create new report same error appears

HI @Anonymous,

What type of power bi desktop are you test? The common version of the report server optimization version?
If you are work with the second one, I'd like to suggest you test on the common version to confirm if this issue only appears on the report server optimization version. (some feature not available on report optimize versions)
If this is a case, you can contact to power bi team to report this issue with the report server optimization version.
