Power BI isn't importing data from SQL data source

Hi Folks,

I'm querying a SQL database using the import type connection. I've added several tables with millions of rows per table. I can refresh some tables with no issue however other tables seem to show the "refresh box" with the following message:

[x] rows from [datasource]

However it doesn't go any further.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

J

Hi @Greg_Deckler

So before you read on, I'm no SQL expert to bear with my answer 🙂

When you refresh the Power BI report a job is run on the SQL database. This job "forwards" your query to the correct table. It looked as though the table being queried had an issue when generating IDs. Our SQL expert made a change on the database table that fixed all of our issues.

In other words, Power BI worked as expected but it was an issue on the datasource.

Hopefully that helps,

Jay

Hmm, that's a tough one to troubleshoot. Is it always getting up to a particular number of rows? You could check the Issues forum here:

https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Issues/idb-p/Issues

And if it is not there, then you could post it.

If you have Pro account you could try to open a support ticket. If you have a Pro account it is free. Go to https://support.powerbi.com. Scroll down and click "CREATE SUPPORT TICKET".
