Power BI desktop is stucked with white screen

  Hi...

I have a serious problem with my Power BI desktop. It was fine but from a couple of days ago, my Power BI desktop stuck often and I cannot do anything with it.

I happen when I work with it or when I click the save button. It makes me back to the previous process again and again.

Is there anyone who had the same experience?

  Please help me...

Hi @Young_G_Han ,

Are you using 64 bit Power BI? If not, please download and install the latest 64 bit version.

Do a CTRL-Shift-Esc and see how many GB Power BI  is using. check the memory usage.

Also you can disable background refresh that could be causing issues.

Check to see if a large number of calculated columns are used.

I'd like to suggest you follow the optimization guide for Power BI in the article . You may also use Performance Analyzer to examine report element performance.

Hope it helps,

Save and open your file. Close all you browsers to make sure not other process taking RAM and CPU and then try

Thank you, Master. Type detection helps me a bit but it couldn't solve my problem 100%.

My computer is i5-6500 @3.2GHz CPU, and the capacity of RAM is 32GB.

SSD is installed and 64bit BI program is running.

The data file is around 350MB, do you think I need to upgrade my computer?

Hi @Young_G_Han ,

The following list provides the minimum requirements to run Power BI Desktop:

  • Windows 8.1 / Windows Server 2012 R2, or later
  • .NET 4.6.2 or later
  • Internet Explorer 11 or later
  • Memory (RAM): At least 2 GB available, 4 GB or more recommended.
  • Display: At least 1440x900 or 1600x900 (16:9) required. Lower resolutions such as 1024x768 or 1280x800 aren't supported, as certain controls (such as closing the startup screen) display beyond those resolutions.
  • Windows display settings: If you set your display settings to change the size of text, apps, and other items to more than 100%, you may not be able to see certain dialogs that you must interact with to continue using Power BI Desktop. If you encounter this issue, check your display settings in Windows by going to Settings > System > Display, and use the slider to return display settings to 100%.
  • CPU: 1 gigahertz (GHz) 64-bit (x64) processor or better recommended.
  • Power BI Desktop is no longer supported on Windows 7.

This problem is usually caused by the data model. I still suggest you to optimize your data model.

Please refer to the video for more details.
