Power BI desktop - dates showing as DD Month YY in visuals despite showing correctly in dataflow

Hi,

Have a dataflow with date datatype and shows correctly when look at the edit tables in dataflow itself and also in the transform data tab of power bi desktop.

However, when look to include this date in visual in Desktop shows as DD Month YYYY and data  tab also shows in this format

How can we best ensure dates from dataflows are alwys in DD/MM/YYYY (uk format) and also show correctly in desktop viusals.

Screenshots below

Hi @po ,

1. Please check the settings of these three options.

2. Save dataflow and refresh, Check the format.

Checked your first and second screenshots and they aer already set as United Kingdom.

Please can you advise how you access your third screenot where you are showing regional format data?

Thanks

Hi Philip,

This is the regional setting of the operating system, take win10 as an example.

Hi Gao,

Thanks for info.

Checked all set to United Kingdom.

As I undetstand it, power bi desktop uses Long Date format as default format.

I tried setting Long Date using Regional settings to same as short date format as per below DD/MM/YYYY but still power bi desktop uses Long Date format as DD Month YYYY e.g 14 June 2022 rather than 14/06/2022

Is there any way to force power bi automatically to use either short date format by default or use the long date as set via the Regional Settings?

I know can explictly format each and every date manually in desktop but wanted a way to have this auotmatically set to short date as will be using many dataflows in many datasts and woudl save alot of manual work.

Thanks

Have you tried changing the format here?

Hi,

Thanks for reply.

Looks like you are doing this in power bi desktop and woudl need to repeat this each time imported the data into dataset.

Want to format in the dataflow as DD/MM/YYYY - is this possible?

- looks o.k. in dataflow but when view in service and desktop shows as DD Month YYYY

Was the data type set using the Using locale... feature in power query?

Thanks for reply.

Tried setting with locale and without locale - same behaviour

Thanks for link

You could also check the language setting in Power Bi Online.

And check on your browser language settings

Thanks for info.

This set to English though  using pbi desktop and not service/online in this instance
