Have tried to connect to the SSAS server using IP:Port number, have tried with URL:Port number. Tabular was already on the server, so had to install Multidimensional as a named instance which did not go onto port 2382, but port 55735. To make matters worse, each time the server is restarted it selects a new port, so the firewall needs to be adjusted and all the clients which connect.
When trying to Connect Live to SSAS on an AWS server using IP:Port gives the below error:
We could not connect to the Analysis Services because the connection timed out of the server name is incorrect.
When trying to Connect Live to SSAS on and AWS server using server name:port I get the same error.
How can I specify IP address and Port in the server box so that it will work?
Hi @Anonymous ,
Does this issue have been resolved?Could you please provide more details about it If it still not be resolved? Please don't contain any Confidential Information or Real data in your reply.
Best regards,
To attempt to resolve this issue, I uninstalled the Tabular default instance and installed SSAS multidimensional to the default instance. However because my client is in AWS and not in a trusted network, PBI doesn't connect to the cube. So basically it seems that Microsoft has turned PBI into a sales tool.
@Anonymous , refer if these can help

Hi Amit Thank you for these articles, have seen the video. There is only one SSAS database on the server which contains 2 cubes, which both process fine.
This is SQL 2019 and the server is sitting at AWS, so there is no trusted connections, I'm using a Windows User I setup on the AWS VM which works when I connect to it using MS Excel by way of IP:port number.
I've tried to hardcode the SSAS named instance onto 2382, but it stubbornly reselects a port in the 50000 range. Each time this happens I need to configure the firewall for inbound and outbound and correct the Excel connection.
Hi @Anonymous ,
If you cannot connect AS Instance by the ip:port, please verify if you have allowed the nessary port in bothe Windows firewall and security group of VPC. Try to use SSMS to connect it to see if it is a valid connection source.
If you want to configure the port of AS instance, please refer to following document (configure location may different depens on version):
