Power BI - Sharepoint List connection Issues

Hi

When connecting the Power BI Desktop to a Sharepoint List an error is displayed.

Error: Unable to connect

We encountered an error while trying to connect.

Details: "Microsoft.Mashup.Engine1.Library.Resources.HttpResource: Request Failed:

OData Version: 3 and 4, Error: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found. (Not Found)"

I have checked the sharepoint link several times and it is correct, so I can not understand why I am getting a 404 error.

Would you be able to assist me on that ?

Can you share an example of link to connect to a Sharepoint List or Share the structure that it must have ?

Thank you !

Are you removing the Default.aspx or whatever is at the end of the url?  It should be https://tenantname.domain.com/sites/sitename

Thanks!

You have to log in into the Data Source when you connect. You likely were presented a window and you didn't select Microsoft Account on the left side to log in. Consequently, it's using Anonymous access.

To fix, in Power BI Desktop, go to

  1. File, Options and Settings, Datasource settings
  2. Select your data connection in the window
  3. Click Clear Permissions
  4. Close the dialog
  5. Click Refresh in the ribbon
  6. You will be prompted to log into the data source
  7. Click Microsoft Account on the left side
  8. Click the Sign In button to enter your credentials
  9. Select the site address in the dropdown
  10. Click Ok or whatever to connect

You should now see data.

You are either putting in the URL for the list instead of the site URL OR you didn't select Microsoft Account and sign in with your O365 credentials when prompted to log into the site.

Thanks!

Hi Treb,

Thanks for your reply.

I have tried putting both URL for the list and site, but I have got the error the same way.

When I set the URL for the list, an error 404 is displayed;

When I set the URL for the site, an error is displayed telling me that the URL is not valid.

Also, I have checked that I am signed on both Power BI and Sharepoint accounts.

If you have any other suggestion, that would be great.

Thank you !

Is this SharePoint Online?

I have got a new error using this format:

- Access forbidden

That's weird because the user actually has access to the Sharepoint.

Does the Power BI require any upgrade on license to connect to Sharepoint List ?
