Power BI Premier Crashing on VDI/Desktop Application

Hello,

Mike Lewis requested we raise a ticket here.

Team and I are facing issues with PowerBI for VDI & local installed app. We're attempting to create datasets but facing crashes with small and large datasets. We've been in discussion with IT multiple times but haven't been able to resolve our issue.

Below is a short questionaire with answers from our IT Team:

Could be related to desktop resources.  Is there an error message you can share? – Yes. Please find attached the error messages we got.

  1. What is the underlying data source the report is using? – We connect to Teradata (EDW) for the data sources. We will be also connecting to SQL Server moving forward.
  2. Are you importing the data or using Directory Query? – We are importing the data.
  3. How many CPUs and Ram does the VDI machine have? – We have tried it out on VDIs with 4 GB RAM and 6 GB RAM but we get error on both the VDIs.
  4. How much data is the BI report pulling? – There are 3 base tables from EDW which is just under 160 MB
  5. Are these reports complex? – Yes. Please find attached the snapshot of the ERD for reference.

@Anonymous ,

You may try the option File > Options and settings > Options > Data Load and take a look at https://www.sqlbi.com/articles/data-import-best-practices-in-power-bi/.
