Power BI Implementation across multiple companies

I have between 5-100 companies (range given to see if impacts suggestions) and would like to implement Power Bi across them to provide:

  • Monitoring of how each individual company is performing
  • Consolidation results for all companies in a dashboard format

 

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to achieve this?

@BigBadBob it is very vague information but best practice would be to have one centralize dataset from all the companies, and implement Row Level Security, so the users from individual company see their own data and with elevated permission, management can see all companies data. 


There are many ways to handle this but I think this is a good starting point. Feel free to reach out if you have further questions.

@BigBadBobI worked in a very similar situation, where a company had many acquisitions and all of them came with their own ERPs and systems.

 

Basically, this is what we did.

1. Set up a common business intelligence datawarehouse - can be platform of choice. We just used SQL Server.

2. Build common data structures for sales, finance, operations etc - most of these are very standardized and reference implementations are available. Additional fields such as Company/Brand etc helps identify specific group company

3. Bult integration jobs from each of the source systems into the warehouse.

4. Built a set of common reports on top of the consolidated tables.

5. Adjusted for any idiosyncracies or special business requirements of any group company. One can always build a specific report as needed.
