Dear all,
as we are dealing with sensitive customer data, I have the following question to you regarding the Power BI Desktop Version.
My set up: I am registered over my company e-mail in power bi and I currently use the Power BI Desktop version as well as the Publishing Tools on a 60 days trial version.
--> If I only use Power BI Desktop without Publishing it to the web, it will only remain within my premises, right? That means, it will not be stored in any cloud, correct?
--> Would the answer to above change, if I am a) a pro user or b) an unregistered user?
Thank you very much in advance for your prompt reply!

Hello Hans-Jörg,
the thing is.
To stay away from the cloud you are only allowed to publish on your Power BI Report Server.
If you publish in the Power BI Service - you are in the Cloud.
Pro/unregistered user does not change the answer as you are only allowed to publish to the Power BI Report Server.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help you.
To illustrate it:
BR,

vielen lieben Dank für deinen Support!

Unless you click the 'publish' button, all your data stays with you (on premise)
this doesn't change if you upgrade your licence etc - until you publish, or share the .pbix file with any one, you are in complete control.
Thank you very much!
