Power BI Desktop (Technical Preview with SSRS ver) Issue to connect to SQL Analysis DB

Dears,

With the technical preview for Power BI + SSRS 2016 successfully installed.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=54610

Then create the Power BI reports with live connection to SSAS DB in the server side which is also the DB, also able to upload the Power BI reports to the SSRS portal successfully.

Then on client side which is my laptop also installed the Power BI dekstop ver with RS.exe, but fail to connect to SSAS DB. So I open the portal to to view the report is fine. However, when download and open locally with Power BI Desktip for RS then encountered connection error.

Is it an issue for the preview version ?

Thanks

Andy Wong

Hi @andykmwong,

From the error message, it seems that you are not able to connect to SSAS database from the laptop. If there is SSMS on laptop, please check if you can use SSMS connect to that SSAS server successfully. If not, please install the general Power BI desktop, then use SSAS data source to see if you can set connection.

Also please go to that SSAS server, find the port , add a Inbound Rule for that specific number. To find the port of SSAS, see: How to determine and change the port of an SSAS Instance.

Best Regards,
