What specific permissions are required Power BI for to run? If I launch Power BI with anything other than Run as a different user + enter account credentials with admin privleges, I get an error: Microsoft Power BI Desktop couldn't start properly due to errors with named pipe connections. Please click the link below for details. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-error-launching-desktop.
The link isn't particularly helpful since I've never been able to launch Power BI desktop to connect it to my data gateway and it doesn't specify the security rules that are preventing the app from communicating.
If launching with administrator privilege isn't possible, contact your administrator to determine which security rules are getting applied that prevent named pipes from properly communicating, and whitelist Power BI Desktop and its respective subprocesses.
Since I can't provide admin rights or separate administrator credentials to all my users who might use Power BI Desktop, can anyone help me determine the security rules required for Power BI to run? Power BI and the data gateway are new to our organization and our systems engineer doesn't know how to proceed.

No, I haven't gotten an acceptable answer. I am able to get Power BI Desktop to run if I provide administrator credentials, but I cannot provide admin creds to all users who will be using Power BI Desktop. I really need to know exactly what permissions are required so we can grant users with access to just those things without allowing them to install applications on their computers.
Hi @Anonymous ,
Sorry for the delay.
By my tests, I cannot reproduce your issue in my site. If I click Run as Administrator and type the admin account, it could luanch Desktop successully.
I'm afraid that should be caused by your windows setting.
In addition, you could have a reference of this similar thread which has been solved.
Best Regards,
Cherry
