Port range to Connect PowerBI Desktop to Azure SQL PaaS service

Hi,

We are creating an Azure SQL Database (PaaS) and want to connect to the data with Power BI. We realized that we'll be needing the desktop version and will have to change our firewall settings to allow users to retrieve the data from Azure. Can someone let me know which ports we'll need to open ?

Regards - Werner

Hi @Sparrow147,

To access Azure SQL Database from your local computer, ensure the firewall on your network and local computer allows outgoing communication on TCP port 1433.

Does Azure provide tooling for end-users to access SQL PaaS data from within the Azure portal which eliminates the need for connectivity between the desktop and the SQL PaaS environment? We have had a look at Power BI, but will need the Power BI Pro Desktop version if we want to define the relations within the database tables. We are wondering whether the Power BI version within the Azure Portal might eliminate the need for using the Desktop version.

As I am not very familiar with Azure portal, I would suggest you also go to Azure forums for better assistance on this issue.Smiley Happy
