Page defaulting back to current month of data when all data is selected

We have built the metrics in our report to default to current month by creating a measure for each as follows

Attendances Current Month =
VAR MaxDate = MAX(Outpatient_Appointments[Appointment_Date])
VAR TargetDate = EDATE(MaxDate,0)
VAR Month = MONTH(TargetDate)
VAR Year = YEAR(TargetDate)
RETURN
IF( [Filter Comparison]=1,
CALCULATE([Attendances],YEAR(Outpatient_Appointments[Appointment_Date])=Year,MONTH(Outpatient_Appointments[Appointment_Date])=Month),
[Attendances]
)

This means the measure shows the current month attendances, unless you select a different month/more months in the filters. However, if a user keeps selecting months in the filters until all of the months in the dataset are selected, then the whole page defaults back to show current month attendances rather than the full number of attendances in the dataset. This is confusing for users and I can't find a way to stop it doing so! Please help!
