Opening PBI Desktop report works but no more 2-factor-authentication

Hi guys,

I have been working on various PBI reports for a customer. In order to create or edit reports I have always logged in with my PBI credentials by using 2-factor-authentication. However recently I am able to open PBIX reports without being asked about my credentials for 2-FA. Why is that happening and how can this be solved?

Additionally and perhaps in this context, when a PBIX report is opened for a while, sometimes many visuals can't be displayed anymore.  The error message from the visuals is:

Couldn't load the data for this visual.

Authentication failed.

Technical Details:

RootActivityID: ......

Date (UTC): ....

The same visuals are still working in PBI Service though.

Thanks a lot in advance for help or suggestions.

Hi thhmez7,

2fa is not set within Power BI but within the AD. You could verify with your admin whether they have changed any authentication policies lately. Perhaps they disabled 2fa.

Best regards,

Tim
