One data column not refreshing, but not getting any error messages

My model has been pulling data from excel files that upload to a folder monthly. Never had any problems. That data flows into a table that merges with another table to form the query I use for modeling and calculation.

However, while this month's upload was successful - no error messages, one single column will not refresh, even though all the data for that column refreshed in prior months without any problems. The fields for that column just show "null", even though they are correctly populated for prior months.

I checked this exact field in the Excel source file and it was populated correctly. So  I cannot figure out why the file uploads and merges correctly into the query, all other columns are loading correctly, but this one field for a single column only for this month only shows "null" for data, even though the data exists in the source file.

I'm about to delete the source file, refresh, and then re-upload it again unless anyone out there has better suggestions.

Thanks!

Check in the import queries that your column hasn't become lost somewhere. Given that you are using Excel files, its possible something has occured that has caused your column to become excluded.  Some examples might be:

  • One of your initial files is CSV and only looks for X columns but your column is a now X + 1
  • The column you care about has had a name change, even if its a blank character added, and is now being missed or excluded by a join or a remove other columns.

Your suggestion was correct. The column in question had a slight name change: one letter in the column name was written in lower case instead of its usual upper case. Once I corrected that single letter, saved the Excel file and refreshed the table in Power BI, all of the data from that column uploaded into the query perfectly.

Thank you!
