OData Option

why should we use Odata option if there is an option to use SQL Server connection directly? for example, for dynamics gp 2016, we can connect to GP using odata feed or sql server connection. what is the difference and what are the pros and cons?

OData is an API protocol, so you are limited to only get the results that the API server side is programed to give you.

Where as with the SQL Server connection you are able to run any SQL query against the DB (as long as you have the permission of course)
