Not possible to refresh PBI data due to additional column in data source?

Hello everybody!

My current situation is as follows: One of my PBI files accesses a folder consisting of 14 Excel files. The setup of columns is equal for all files.

Now I have to update all these Excel files which will result in one additional column.

When I tried to update my PBI file, I got an error message. I assume PBI does not like this additional column!?

Is there any way to overcome this problem?

Hello @Orstenpowers,

When you used the folder connector, Power BI generates a function to transform each file and then be able to merge.; and, when you added a column, this transformation was broken.

You would have to go to that transform function (in "Data Transformation") and add the column manually.

Best regards!

@Orstenpowers , Go to transform data. Right click on table. Open advance editor and add the column in script and try

Please can you describe what the error message is that you are getting? You should be able to troubleshoot errors in the Power Query Editor (click Transform Data in the Home tab) and see which queries return error and click 'go to error'

If you have multiple queries, the first generic error message might say 'load cancelled due to error in previous query' so you need to scroll down until you find the more meaningful error message.

If you are able to share the M code from Advanced Editor on this forum (make sure there's nothing confidential in it, that may be helpful as well, but we should be able to walk you through troubleshooting steps either way.

Please @mention me in your reply if you want a response.

can you say what error message you are getting? having an additional column should not be an issue but it depends on what you are doing, are you combining all these files?
