I have some sharepoint lists and when importing them into Bi, the headers are not importing and therefore unable to promote headers and have to manually rename the columns. Any ideas why?

Unfortunately, neather of the above links helped and in the end, I ended up renaming the column headers from "field1", etc. to the desired column name.
I always have this issue when importing an excel table into SP list then connecting via BI.

Whether in your sharepoint list contains "lookup" value?If not,try below steps:
After successfully connecting with power bi>transform:
Move to right side of lines>expand:
