New Measure created in PBI Desktop but won't show in PBI Web?

Hello!

New to Power BI ❤️

I am running into an issue where I am trying to add a new measure to my dataset.

Looking through these forums I was able to create a new measure in Power BI Desktop and it works great!

Now, I need this to be available in the dataset in Power BI Web...

I have refreshed the data in PBI Desktop as well as the dataset in PBI Web.

It still is not available when I want to add the measure in PBI Web because it's just not there.

Am I missing something in getting this measure available to my reporting in my workspaces?

Please be nice. Reddit has not been to kind with my questions.

A link to tutorial or resolution would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you! 🙂

How about trying to connect to it in Desktop using the Power BI dataset connector

You should still be able to create a measure doing that.

Hi @nfowler_PDR,

Welcome to Power BI land! First question for you. Once you've created the measure in Power BI Desktop are you publishing the report to the Power BI service (web)? If you're not republishing the report then the changes wouldn't be picked up in the service.

Will I have to republish all of my reports that I need the new measure on?

I currently cannot download the .pbix from my web reports as they are all grayed out.

Thank you for the response and welcome! ❤️ @Watsky

Are your web reports different from the desktop version? If you have the desktop versions of all reports you will need to republish any desktop pbix which has the measure you're looking for on the service.

Yes, the web reports are different from my desktop reports.

Most have been pre-created by HSO, a Dynamics and reporting assistance co., so i need to main dataset to reflect the new measure.

If I try to download the report to desktop, the option is grayed out.

Hi @nfowler_PDR ,

Maybe you can try download pbix file from the dataset of this report.

If there is no this option, there maybe some change after you published it first time.

Please check the limitations list of download pbix file from this link.

Download a report from the Power BI service to Power BI Desktop - Power BI | Microsoft Docs

Or Try the solution as @Watsky said.
