Migration from Power BI Pro to premium

Hi All,

We are planning to do the migration from Pro to Premium.

  • How much work is it if we have to convert reports from pro  to power BI premium? conside we have 100 reports
  • How quickly could this be?
  • What is the impact on the Pro project if this were to take place ?
  • Steps to do consider during migration

Could you please anyone provide the input please

@Anonymous ,

This link explains how to edit the workspace and set it for a premium capacity:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/admin/service-admin-premium-manage

You are gonna still need the pro licences, if you have more than necessary you can cancel them and pay only the necessary number of pro.

Hello, we have migrated to the premiumm version by capacity, but users get that they have a free trial version, or premium versoin per user, when they run out of the test, they access the area but not the reports. I know why?

Thank you

Hi @Anonymous ,

Power BI Premium is about capacity and some extra resources.

Even with Premium you still need pro licenses for developers.

It's basically an environment where you pay for a number of viewers and developers (pro) to use Power BI on a dedicated capacity (cpu/memory....).

It's not a hard work to change the current reports.

Once you have Premium, you just set your Workspace as Premium.

Hi,

we are doing the same, can somone advise if we need to migrate all workspace accross to being preium , is there not a select all and upgrade to Premium workspaces? we have 1500 workspaces accross the entire council. we have been on pro for 5 years and have now almost got the the number of users making it finacially viable to move.

The idea of upgrading each workspace manually is a fun one lol.
