May 2018 update fails to install

Attempting to install May update and the installation keeps failing. It freezes in the wizard with "Status - Computing space requirements" and then fails with this message: "The folder path "My Documents" contains an invalid character." At no point in the installation is the wizard being pointed to that location so that is not something I can change. The destination folder is C:\Program Files|Microsoft Power BI Desktop\

I have re-downloaded the update multiple times with no success. I cannot use the store app as I am running Windows 8. This is the first time I have had any issues updating to the new version.

Hi kcantor,

I have test on the issue but can't reproduce it. Have you uninstalled the old version of PBI desktop before you unstall the new version? If not, please uninstall the old version first and then install the new version from this link:
