Mapping - Shape file?

Hi,

I am relatively new to Power BI, but I am looking for help on a specific issue I have. Sadly hours of searching on google has not helped me! I think I need a shape file and ARC GIS, but I am a bit lost.

The short version is; I have a very large data set and each entry is geographically placed using Lat and Long. The data is not categorised by location in any other way, I am looking to find a way to filter/search/slice in a number of ways. Initially, it would be great to categorise the data by UK regions (so South East, South West etc) and secondly through counties.

The outcome I need is to be able to use a 'slice' to show me data for counties, if I were to pick Devon I would want to only be shown entries where the Lat and Long from the principle data set fall within the boundaries of Devon. The data set is too large to retrospectively go back and enter this information, I need to find a way to manipulate it within Power BI (or perhaps another application?).

Thanks in advance!

Hi @kate_skinner ,

You can try to convert lat and long to address by MS Flow. Please refer to the similar post: https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Building-Flows/Convert-latitude-and-longitude-to-address/td-p/27...

If this post help, please consider accept it as the solution to help others find it more  quickly.

Best Regard,

@kate_skinner

You need TopoJson files to add to the map visual. Try searching for "Topojson UK files"
Here a couple of sources:
