Map visual showing different output in Service

Hi All,

I am creating map visualization for seaport details. I have port country and port name.

Ex: Port country : India, Port name: vizag, mumbai, haldia, ennore and 4 more ports ( Totally 8 ports)

I got output like :

Data category (Port Name)       Port Name

BI Desktop        uncategorzied                             8 port showing ( 1 port position was wrong : Jawaharlal Nehru Port was in                                                                                         Mumbai,But it was showing in Goa)

BI Service          uncategorzied                             2 port only showing ( ennore & vizag).

BI Desktop       City \ Place \ address                   2 port only showing ( ennore & vizag) remaining missing

BI Service         City \ Place \ address                   2 port only showing ( ennore & vizag) remaining missing

port pic.jpg

  1. Why it was showing 2 ports only in services
  2. Is there way to show port name accurately in map visual
  3. Why service and desktop was showing different values across map visual? Ia the BUG in map visual?

I have attached Port Details link. Please test it and correct it.

In latest version 2.48.4792.721 (July 2017) of Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service, 6 ports can be located properly with "Place" data category except JAWAHARLAL NEHRU PORT and VADINAR TERMINAL. Please refer to the first map visual in following web report.

Actually, JAWAHARLAL NEHRU PORT and VADINAR TERMINAL even cannot be located properly in Bing map. Power BI integrates with Bing Maps to provide default map coordinates (a process called geo-coding). So this is actually a Bing map issue which you can report it directly to Bing map side.

To workaround it, you can try to rename JAWAHARLAL NEHRU PORT to Nhava, VADINAR TERMINAL to VADINAR. In that way, Bing map can recognize these two locations.

Herbert
