Manage data source credentials in Power Bi Desktop and Power Bi Server

Hi,

I am facing difficulty in updating data source credentials.

When I publish my report to power bi server in power bi desktop, I have to give credentials for schedule refresh in the server.

When I download the report and open it in power bi desktop, I have to give again pass credentials for the data source.

Can we have workaround for this problem, can we store credentials in power bi report so that we don't have to pass credentials again and again.

Thanks

Hi, @aaslam

To your first question, I'm afraid it couldn't achieve in Power BI. This aspect of the design is primarily concerned with data source security. You have no choice but to edit data source credentials  when using gateway to  realize quick and secure data transferring between on-premises data (data that isn't in the cloud) and several Microsoft cloud services.

To your second question, I  think your credentials should save automatically . You can go to File | Options and settings | Data source settings and you can edit the credentials there.

Last , you can come up with a new idea and add your comments there to make some feature coming sooner if you need.

Hi,

I want to enter Datasets's Data Source Credential automatically. As I am importing .PBIX files using Powershell Script.
Now the issue is, after importing .PBIX file successfully on Power BI Service, the data source should also needed to be entered (username and password). Plz share the solution using Power shell script to enter Data Souce credentials.
thanks.
